Who is your Ideal Client? by Laurie Bornstein
Who is Your Ideal Client?
You're probably thinking, "I know who my clients are, why do I need to determine who my Ideal Client is and why should I care?"
Many of us, as we develop our businesses, find ourselves accepting any and all work that comes our way. Some of it pleasant, rewarding and fulfilling. And some it not so pleasant, maybe even downright miserable. In my experience, if you're busy doing work you don't enjoy, you'll never have the time or space for work that brings you joy.
For some of you, the very idea of turning away work is frightening….I understand and I want you to think about it anyway. If you're busy doing work you don't enjoy, how can your business be a creative expression of who you are? It can't. You're stifled and repressed when you spend your time and energy on work that doesn't fulfill you.
Working with clients that drain and deplete you cost you time, creative energy, motivation and inspiration. Choosing to work with your Ideal Clients creates a dynamic synergy that supports:
* motivation and inspiration* a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment* an appreciation and connection with your clients* a sense of energy and excitement
To attract your perfect client to you, you must first define who they are.
Let's do an exercise. Make a list describing 10 traits or qualities your Ideal Clients have. For example, some of the traits of my Ideal Clients are:
* Responsible (they take responsibility for their success or lack of success)* Creative (willing to step outside of their comfort zone and try something new)* Fearless (they think, dream and act big)* Genuine (they are positive, reliable and open)
You might find it easier to create your list of traits if you use the following sentence and fill in the blank:
My Ideal Client is _____________________
Once you've identified 10 traits your Ideal Clients have, you'll find it easier to say "no" to those clients that do not embody your Ideal Client traits. And you'll find that you will begin to attract the clients you desire.
Success isn't magic or hocus pocus, it's simply learning how to focus. When you focus on what you want, what you want comes to you. By identifying who your Ideal Clients are, you will find that they are easier to find and easier to attract.
Remember, like anything else, good ideas are only that- good ideas, if we don't take action and get pro-active.
Just do it!
